Three Days in the Kingdom: Day 1

As many of you know, our Florida trip this summer started with a bang. I am happy to say that the rest of the trip was a much better experience. Our first day at Disney was spent at Disney Hollywood Studios (use to be Disney MGM but the name was changed after they acquired Pixar).

Y’all, I’m going to have to just hit the highlights for each day because we saw so much and did so much that any blog post to cover it all would be a gazillion words long.

I think the group consensus is that it was the best ride of the park. Since I took my Dramamine before hand, I agreed with everyone. Yeah, I can ride roller coasters that flip me up side down without a problem but one little virtual reality ride screws with my motion sickness.

Sadly, there is no way to take pictures that even come close to doing the ride justice but that missed opportunity is more than made up for with the fabulous picture opportunities in line. I love the one of the younger DSCN3908 smboys being stomped on by an AT-AT. The pics with the 3D glasses on (see above) came in a close second. I thought it was so cool that the flash revealed each person’s eyes and the red and green below the shiny metallic coating on the lenses.

While we were in the Star Tours line, we also prevailed about a really nice person to take a group shot of us. It may not be the absolute best picture around but I treasure it because, for once, the photographer (me) is actually in the group shot!

We also really loved the Backstage Tour. You got to see props galore, set mock ups, DSCN3960 smand even a canyon set that was used to created a phenomenal earthquake/flood disaster. The ride through the canyon was amazing. The train rocked and the water came pouring down all around. They even had the full size tractor trailer rigged to move towards you so it really looked like the water was pushing it. Gabe wanted to go on it again but there was so much more to see and do.

I truly was glad I had read Matt’s book Thirty Days in the Kingdom before this trip DSCN3935 smbecause I really looked around as a result instead of just rushing from ride to ride. When we caught sight of this umbrella prop, we all took the opportunity and had our Mary Poppins moment. Wouldn’t it be fantabulous if you really could fly with just an umbrella?

And, Marty and Joey both embraced the wonder of Disney and freed up their goofy nature. Marty spent the entire day wearing his R2-D2 Mickey ears with the tag attached and Joey took a moment off to ride a giant ant in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids exhibit.

DSCN3966 smFor the very last part of our day, we split into two groups. My mom, dad, and Gabe went to see the Indiana Jones show which they absolutely loved. While they saw the Indy show, Marty, Joey, and I headed for The Tower of Terror…my absolute FAVORITE. Disney has taken advantage of computer technology to improve the ride since I first rode it back in 1995. The ride takes you through an “abandoned hotel” and it’s presented like a Twilight Zone episode. The ride gradually takes you up to the top of this really high tower, opens the door so you can see across Orlando, and then it use to drop you straight down to the ground. Now, instead of one drop, they have six randomized ride patterns that plummeting towards the ground any number of unpredictable times. It rocks! Sadly, I don’t think the boys agreed with me. Marty spent the ride praying and Joey got off and said “I don’t trust Disney. I don’t trust elevators. And, I’m never watching the Disney Channel again. They were even less amused when I giggled at their reaction.

Overall, we had an amazingly fantabulous day. My only complaint is there was so much to see that I could have easily spent 3 more days at that park alone.

Hope y’all come back on Thursday for more fun and lots more pictures.DSCN3953 sm

Star Tours is one of those rides that I just can’t do. I’ve tried it twice, and both times it ends up ruining a good portion of my day.

I can’t wait until we can take the wee-lings to Disney (hopefully, WDW). My Beloved has never done Disney either. It’s going to be awesome. 🙂

Looks like you are having an amazing time. I went to disneyworld back in 1998 just to one park for one day but I loved it, it was my dream. Now I just hope one day to take my child (hope, children) because it will be totally amazing to see them enjoy it too. Have fun, I’m jealous.

Sounds like you had an amazing time with your family. I’m a little jealous! We went to Disney a few times when I was younger. But I seem to recall the mishaps (lost luggage) and blunders (me passing out. A lot – seems like the heat really got to me as a kid) more so than the actual rides. I’m really glad your trip mellowed and you got to enjoy these photo opps (even one you get to be in!)

It has a sweetish flavor similar to raisins or prunes. Sugar adds
flavor to every food and not having this might not give you an appetite to
