So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night

I feel like I need to say something profound and moving and deeply meaningful about leaving 2012 behind but, frankly, I just want to kick it in the ass. 2012 has been a rough year for my family. Health issues have been a huge downer across the board. I know I covered this all before when I wrote Breaking Radio Silence and I’m really not trying to rehash old stuff. It’s just that I’m still struggling a bit with the effects of dealing with everything…still haven’t gotten back to regular levels of posting, still sucking at visiting all my friends’ blogs, etc, etc, etc.

So, in an effort to kick myself back into gear, I want to post a few things that were positve this year.

  • My kids spent some of their personal money (birthday/Christmas money) to buy us a gift.
  • Gabriel is truly flourishing in school. He is reading pretty fluently and he LOVES math.
  • Marty and Joey seem to be having more of the brothers getting along moment vs. the brothers at each other’s throats moments.
  • Vic got the official approval for his bariatric surgery. There may actually be an end in sight for the spiraling hell of his diabetes. We are hoping to schedule it no later than the end of February.
  • I’ve watched Joey’s sense of humor truly bloom. Sometimes it is scary just how much like Vic he is.
  • My sister and friend, Jennifer, survived a pretty horrible auto accident and is on her way back to good health.
  • I read over 130 books this year.
  • The whole family (almost) was together for Thanksgiving. We had a phenomenal time.
  • For the first time in 12 years, Vic had Christmas eve and Christmas day off. The WHOLE family was together Christmas day. Woohoo!

I keep reminding myself to count my blessings instead of dwelling on the negatives but there are times when it’s hard. Slowly but surely I’m conquering the negatives that had me withdraw this last quarter of the year and I’m really hoping to continue.

So, I’ll close out by offering all of you a beautiful, happy and blessed new year. May 2013 be a better year for all of us!

I’m glad that there are many good things to look back on this year, although there is always some bad mixed with the good. You’re right, sometimes it’s hard, but it sounds like you have some positive things happening for you still. Here’s to hoping for a better 2013!

Happy New Year. I’m sorry its been a rough year but I hope 2013 will be better for your family. Good luck to Vic on the gastric bypass, it truly is life changing and I hope his surgery and recovery go well. That’s pretty fabulous about him having Christmas Eve and Christmas off. I know stuff like that doesn’t happen often.

Hey, we both quoted Sound of Music today 🙂

Love that you’re also finding good things going on. I must admit I’m a bit jealous of all the reading you’ve done!
