SHOW AND TELL: The Art Around Us

One of the things that has always caught my eye is artwork in unexpected places….the statue where you wouldn’t expect it or the mural gracing the side of a building. Here in the Triangle area of NC, there are a plethora of gorgeous wall murals. I’d like to share a few of them with you. Click on each picture to get a bigger view (especially the first one).

Isn’t it cool the way the sky mirrors the mural in this picture?

These are SO beautiful! I especially love the last one.

After we’re done drinking our mojitos here, you can show me even more cool stuff there.

๐Ÿ™‚ The thought of that makes me happy.

There is great art in Adams Morgan (a section of the city). I love walking through there. I love when art gives flavour to the place.

Ooh, I love the mirrored mural – that’s sooo cool.

We have a lot of art around my house. My BIL is a photographer and my aunt painted and did ceramics. My fun, different, unique artwork? A 2.5’X4′ oil painting of a light bulb, painted by my aunt.

Those are great. We have a few down town but most of them have been vandalized. Its a shame too because murals are such great art. Thanks for sharing

I totally agree with you–it’s wonderful to find those pieces of art all around you. I often wish I had cameras in my eyes to record the everyday artwork around me. (Yep, I am wierd like that)

I especially love that one with the moon.

I love murals! Too bad I’m not that kind of artist; I’d love to paint them.

We have some really neat art around in Vancouver. A lot of “tagged murals”- where taggers are asked to actually do a mural. They are always very cool.

We also have some really cool sculptures.

Hmm, you may have given me an idea for a S&T post. Again… ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for showing me around the murals in your town. I feel like I went on a mini-vacation. I agree with The SteadFast Warrior. You have given us inspiration for another show and tell.

Those are cool. I remember one from years ago that was on the side of a building in Seattle. It was really pretty although now I don’t remember what it was.

I love murals! My hometown of Lafayette, La has a couple downtown that I always loved as a kid.

Came here via S&T: I love the pic of the mural on the wall with the moon… and then showing it with the moon. That’s just great. Shepard Fairey (the Obama HOPE guy) has an exhibit at ICA-Boston, and actually plastered murals all over the city in preparation for it. He even put one up at Tufts University on a random brick wall by the student center. Sadly, it didn’t last long, but it was cool just the same ๐Ÿ™‚

VERY cool. I love the moon one too.

I love the one of the moon and the buildings. That is SO cool, how it mirrors it at night.

All over New England (and maybe more of the US. . .I’m not really sure), there are “whale walls.” There is a guy who traveled around years ago and painted giant murals of whales. Sadly, they are starting to crumble from age, but as a kid I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Very cool murals! In the downtown area of my city, there are some pretty groovy statues situated on the benches… I am always a little taken aback when I see them.

My favourite tho, is from the Queen Anne Hill area of Seattle… they have the dance footprints for different ballroom dances in the sidewalk on the corners.

I adore the moon one, and would totally put the photo of it mimicked by nature on my wall. Gorgeous.
