Perfect Moment Monday: Family and Friend

Yeah, yeah, I know it’s not Monday but I seem to be perpetually behind lately so this is appropriate.

I’m an Air Force brat. I grew up all over the place. I was born in Taiwan and have lived in New Jersey, Germany, Hawaii, Florida, and North Carolina. Growing up, I had to adjust to moving and leaving people behind. Luckily, for me, I made friends easily so it was never too hard on me. Having friendships that lasted longer than a handful of years was a foreign concept for me…up until high school.

But, in high school, I met my best friend, my sister by choice, Jennifer. Jennifer and I clicked almost immediately. It was so fabulous having someone who got my goofy sense of humor. Jennifer was someone I hoped would be a friend for life. Today, 27 years later, Jennifer is still an important part of my life. We see each other at least once a week and my family considers her one of us.

In the very beginning of December, I found out Jennifer had been in a very serious car accident. This asshat t-boned Jennifer’s car while going 65 mph in a 45 zone. By the time I found out about the accident, we knew Jennifer was ok but I was still so worried for her. I was so scared about what might have happened.

After 3 long weeks, I finally got to spend some time with Jennifer and, after another week, Jennifer was finally able to come back by our house. I’m not sure who was happier to see her here. But, I know I was just glad she was back with us.DSCN3146 lg

So glad that your friend is OK, and that she is recovering by spending time with you and your family!

(I may do a Perfect Moment Thursday at this point. Doh.)

I’m touched by how long your friendship has lasted, and by the fact that you’ve chosen her as your sister. That’s really beautiful.

Also – my ears always perk up when I hear someone’s lived in NJ. I grew up near Toms River 🙂
