My Quotable Quotidian

Erica over at Parenthood for Me has started a weekly post called the “Quotable Quotidian”(click on the button to get to this weeks post). She says “The “Quotable Quotidian” can be words of wisdom, famous quotes, not-so-famous quotes, lines of poetry, a line from a favorite song, etc. It can be your own insight and creativity or that of another; give credit where credit is due. If you read something or hear something and feel inspired, share it on her blog.

My story and resulting quote goes back a number of years. It was over 5 years ago. Marty wasn’t even 7 yet. I was having a very sad day because a dear friend had just had to make the decision to turn off her 4 yr old son’s life support. Marty always was very tuned into people’s emotions, even at that age and he asked me what was wrong. Since I had told him all about my friend’s son’s sudden illness, I told him about her decision. He wanted to know how she knew that was what she had to do. I told Marty that T had prayed to God to help her make the decision. I said that T prayed and said that she wanted her son to be whole again and that she was told that the only way that would happen was when her son C went home to God. Marty asked me how God told her that…did she hear him? I told him that T prayed and when she did, she got the strong sense and feeling that the only way C would ever heal was with God. Marty stopped and thought and then came out with this gem…”So, sometimes when you pray to God, you actually hear him and somtimes you only hear him in your heart.” I was floored by the wisdom coming from my little boy.
