Mud Baths For All

I love my dogs…I really do…but, tonight was not my idea of fun. I know I’ve told y’all how my old lady, Jolie, has the equivalent of old age induced doggy vertigo. Most days is doesn’t bother her much but, every now and then, she decides she is capable of doing everything she use to be able to do and then we have problems. Tonight was one of those nights.

Jolie went out back for her evening constitutional and decided she needed to go into the hole that the boys have been digging. Now, those of you who have been here for a while know this isn’t your normal backyard hole. No, this is the hole someone was thinking of when they made a crack about digging all the way to China.  This hole is deep enough that the children commandeered the trampoline ladder to make getting in and out of the hole easier. To make things even better for Jolie, the center of the hole (the hole within the hole) got filled with rain earlier this week which means the mud is nice and thick…you know, the kind of mud that grabs your shoe and keeps it.

Jolie got in the hole without a problem. Jolie even got in the mud without a problem. But, she couldn’t get out of the mud. Jolie was stuck.

Joey got in the hole and helped her out of the mud and then helped her out of the hole. Luckily, she wasn’t injured…no limping, no hobbling, no whimpering. No, the only problem she had is that she was mud covered and the mud STUNK. This meant bath time….and, that meant a bath in the bath tub because it was already dark and the ground is muddy.

imageJolie can’t get into the tub by herself. Vic isn’t allowed to lift that much weight yet because of  his surgery. Marty had headed back to get in the shower literally minutes before this happened. That left me to do the lifting. Between lifting Jolie and bathing her, I got decorated myself. At that point, I figured “What the hell…I’m already wet and dirty, might as well bathe Jack dog, too.” I think I was twice as bad after Jack because, despite loving water, he hates baths with a passion.

Oh well, at least my doggies are nice and clean and they are out cold for the night…
Did you do anything fun this weekend?

We dug holes too this weekend… but ours were for a garden box in the backyard. I ended up looking about as decorated as you!

Ugh… muddy dogs. I love dogs, really I do. But how is it that they always find the exact nastiest stuff to get into? We had a dog who liked to go to our neighbour’s horse pasture and roll around in the manure. Lovely.

Didn’t do anything fun this weekend, except nurse three wretched colds (me and the wee-lings).

Sounds like fun. Haha. A few weeks ago when lily pooped in the car and got it all over herself I ended up showering with her to get her bathed.
