Hey honey, let me be intrusive and rude to say I love you…

or, the ad campaign that should never have been…

We all know men are frequently at a loss about what to get women for the holidays and it is admirable that CBS Cares wanted to help during the 2009 holiday season. But, what the fuck were they thinking when they decided to do a series of PSAs recommending men make their women appointments to get a pap smear? Yes, they really did that…

I mean nothing says I love you like a cold speculum up your hoohah. And, “Give her the gift even Santa can’t deliver”…wtf?!? Santa might suddenly be without a sac if he tried to deliver a gift like that. Seriously though, what were they thinking? Sure, it is great to encourage women to get the yearly vag exam done, but what in the hell were they thinking when they recommended men MAKE the appointment for their women. Oh, I know, CBS wanted it to be a real family holiday…misunderstanding, anger, and a trip to the ER. That is a private decision and the sheer presumption and rudeness it would take to make the appointment as a “present” (implying as a surprise) is mind boggling and a sure way to induce in the female a desire to say “I love you honey. Why don’t you go have a finger shoved up your ass.” Maybe CBS Cares should do a PSA about that? Bwahahahaha, too late with that suggestion. CBS already covered it.

I only have few more questions. Don’t you love how inclusive they were by doing these lovely PSAs for both the Christians and the Jews? Do you think they were being unfair by not doing a Ramadan version of it too? And, what would you do if the man in your life gave you this as a gift?

I saw those… yeah, a few choice words. I understand what they were trying to say, but after the commercial I looked at my husband and said, “Hun, don’t ever do that for me.” Not that he would have anyway, lol, but I had to say it out loud.

But seriously, if he ever did, it would make me feel like one- he doesn’t know me at all, or two- doesn’t trust me to take care of my own body.

Amazing. I would have thought these were from Saturday Night Live.

And I love how both of those men sound like they’re doing dead-pan comedy, which is surely the only way to get through that script without cracking up.

Recently, my husband dragged me with him to the doctor to be evaluated for a hernia. He always drags me to the doctor with him, but I never go in. I’m not sure why I have to go. But after the hernia exam, I know why I can’t go in…he said “You’re not going in. I am not stripping down and having you watch some guy poke at my balls.” So, I think suggesting a prostate exam would be right out too.

Also, he’s not fond of hearing about any of my medical issues. Correction: my medical issues fall in the category of things he doesn’t want to know about, so I can talk to him all day long about them and he will not hear one word I say.

OMG! How in the world did I miss these? If my Beloved EVER presumed to make that appointment for me… as a gift?!?!?! LOL! Obviously a man came up with that ad campaign (kind of like the ‘have a happy period’ campaign).

I don’t know what is funnier. The commercials or the tag “fucknuttery”.

the hubby and i saw that one together. i turned to him and said, “pop quiz, who would you call to make that appointment?”

“i have no idea. guess you won’t be getting that wonderful gift this year. do those things come with a tennis bracelet or something as a parting gift?”

“um no, you are not getting off that easy.”

“if i had to make that appointment for you i would never get off again. i don’t want to know that much about it.”

    got to love the hubby.

OMG. I would’ve died had I seen these commercials. Clearly we’re missing out up here in Canada!

Though perhaps thank goodness – what if my husband thought a speculum with a bow on it was an appropriate gift!?

PS – on an unrelated note – the gingerbread balls are en route!

Ok so I saw these at least the pap smear ones and laughed my head off. Seriously, what man is going to go call the ob/gyn office and say “hey, I need to schedule my wife’s pap.” Although I will say how many women have made appointments for physicals for men. I’d guess that’s more common. That said I wouldn’t be too impressed if my significant other made me a pap appointment. I also reminded me though of a time I had had some cramping and the doc ordered a trans vag ultrasound. My first ever long before I knew squat about IF. I remember coming home from that humiliating appointment and looking at my boyfriend at the time and telling him that I never again wanted to hear him complain about a prostate exam again.

Well that was a good use of cash now wasn’t it. I am sure that’s just want every woman wanted for Christmas?

I missed those ones glad you decided to share I needed a good laugh! 🙂

How weird. I wonder if anyone was really paying attention?

How odd. I make my own appointments.

It is something you would see on Saturday Night live!
