He’s 17

image17 years ago, I was sitting in my hospital bed staring at this little bundle in my arms. I couldn’t believe he was really mine…really ours. He was such a perfect little baby and he had the longest fingers and biggest feet you’ve seen on a newborn. Seriously, I remember his nurse commenting that my Marty had the longest feet she had ever printed on a newborn…and she was a veteran.

Today, I no longer look down to see my little boy. I look up to see the amazing young man he has grown into. Yes, I literally look up to him. He has been taller than me for years. But, I also admire the amazing person he has grown into. Of course, like any parent, I am sure my boy is incredibly smart and very attractive…and, yeah, that makes me happy. But, that isn’t what makes me proudest. What makes me the proudest of Marty is his generous heart. He is the boy that donated the contents of his piggy bank to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. He is also the boy who postponed his meal one day at church to help the gentleman who was struggling to cut his own food.

That little boy has grown into a young man who has such a bright future and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Marty, your dad and I had many of our dreams come true that day your were born 17 years ago. We have been so blessed to have you as our son. We love you and hope you have a very Happy Birthday!

Marty, dude, you’re as tall as the fridge! I heard it was your birthday, so I wanted to stop by and congratulate your parents (your mom especially, as I’m rather fond of her) on a fabulous 17 year old son. Parenting is no easy thing, but it sure looks as though they got a gem with you.

    ps. Happy Birthday 😀

Happy birthday big guy. One more year closer to being able to join the French Foreign Legion.

But seriously, you have grown into an incredible young man, and I have been very proud of you.
