Household Hints from Evil Mom:Tip 7

Fixing the Boulder Holder

Have you ever had one of those moments when you finally figure out how to fix something and you are so thrilled that there is a solution but, at the same time, you are kicking yourself because it took so long to figure it out? I had one of those moments just the other day.

I’m sure all you ladies know what it’s like to finally find a bra you like. It fits well. It’s comfortable. The underwire doesn’t even poke you or feel uncomfortable.  I have to admit…it’s kind of thrilling. But, inevitably, 4 to 6 months down the road, that previously comfortable bra starts to have issues with the underwire. The elastic is still in great shape but the underwire or side boning starts to poke through. Nothing you do prevents it and you sure as hell can’t pull the underwire imageout because that means you’re unbalanced and saggy. Definitely no bueno!

Well, I finally figured out a fairly simple way to fix this issue and all it takes is a needle, thread, and some double folded bias tape. I took a close look at the bras and determined where they would be likely to develop weak spots in the fabric (pretty much near the ends of the underwire on each side and where the side boning is). I cut a length of bias tape double or triple the length of the area I wanted to cover (triple folded was for the area covering the two inner points of the underwire). Then, I simply whip stitched them into place. With the bras I currently have, this acted as a preemptive strike to prevent the underwire from ever poking out.

When you carry around the boobage that I do, comfortable bras that are also pretty are a rare find. The little amount of time it took me to make this alteration to my bras is well worth the lengthened life span they now have. It just kills me that it took me this long to figure out such an easy fix.

I had seen a similar fix on Pinterest for when the underwire was already poking out. It bought a couple of my bras another 6 months or so and was great. This is definitely very clever!

Clever! Even for those of us who don’t have what could be considered boulders.

    Very clever.

What you feel for a right bra, is what I feel for undies.
