The Day of the Shoe-gasm

Today, my mom was on her way to Winston-Salem for a WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) meeting and she stopped by to take the boys shopping for back to school shoes. It was on this trip that my mom earned the title of Shoe Fairy and I discovered the shoe mecca of Raleigh.
My mom the Shoe Fairy
We walked into the SRI Shoe Warehouse and it was an instant shoe-gasm. While the aesthetics of the store aren’t great (shoe warehouse kind of says it all), the store is clean and well lit and the staff is friendly. And, frankly, the wall to wall amazeballs shoes more than make up for the lack of plush surroundings.I walked through the front door and the first words out of my mouth were “Oh my God, they have Maddens.” My oldest proved how well he knows me by responding “I take it that makes you very happy.” There were Madden Girls to the right, an aisle full of Kenneth Coles, and boots to die for. Since, sadly I was hampered by back to school needs, I only got to look at a few shoes and try on even fewer.

All the kids picked out their shoes and I was stuck trying to pick just one pair of gems out of all those beauties. I narrowed it down to this gorgeous pair of color block heels from Pierre Dumas and the Kenneth Coles I ultimately took home…
Damn was it hard to pick…but, those Kenneth Coles are so incredibly comfortable. It is true nirvana when I have heels that are comfortable enough to walk in and tall enough that I can look my husband in the eyes.

I do have to admit that the shoe-gasm had one discordant note. There was one pair of boots that had me truly confused. I couldn’t decide if this pair of spike boots by Jeffrey Campbell are truly badass or if they are just truly fugly…So what do you think, badass or just fugly?
