BlogHer’12 – New York Bound

Early on August 1st, we loaded up the van and headed out for our grand BlogHer adventure. Yeah, I guess we fell into the crazy category. We chose to drive to BlogHer and that meant driving in New York City. But, given the fabulous friends and traveling companions in our little group, we made it to New York City with our sanity relatively intact.

That said, our trip wasn’t uneventful. We drove through ugly weather…
horrible traffic (even though the lights in the tunnel looked pretty)…
and dealt with a delusional GPS (see the Lincoln tunnel and then see the blue dot representing us to the right of it)…
I guess the GPS thought we were captaining a submarine instead of driving a van. All the lovely incidents worked together to get us into NYC about 2 hours later than the time we were shooting for but, the important thing is we were still in time for our dinner date.

We capped off our day with the most fantabulous dinner ever. We had dinner at

Max Brenner
. If you are a chocoholic and you haven’t heard of Max Brenner, you MUST rectify that situation immediately. Max Brenner is a restaurant based around the idea that chocolate is the perfect topper for any meal. The best description of Max Brenner I found anywhere is the description from The Passionate Foodie who described it as having a “phantasmagorical Willy Wonka-like style” and it truly has that atmosphere.

I started my meal with the most amazing chocolate martini…
It was like an orgasm in a glass. Oh My Gawd was it ever good…and dangerous. You couldn’t even taste the alcohol in it. Then, I went into vapor lock over the menu. It all sounded so good and I couldn’t decide. Jennifer and I decided to pick something and share it.  She ordered the Pillow Panini and I got the world’s best Mac-n-Cheese…lots of cheeses, bacon, tomatoes. It was total comfort food and totally delicious.
Then, the entire group topped off our meal with s’mores cooked right at the table. I’ve always been a s’more purist…chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers…but, Max Brenner converted me. Raspberry, caramelized bananas, and other goodness all have a place in the s’more universe now.
After that meal, it was all I could do to roll my way back to the Hilton and try to rest for the next day.

Come back soon for the next BlogHer trip installment.
